Driving Directions

From Hump Ridge Track Office, Tuatapere

  • 13 minutes (14.3 km)

  • Starting at 31 Orawia Road, Tuatapere 9620
  • Heading north on Orawia Road, turn left onto Southern Scenic Route/State Hwy 99/ (signs for Manapouri/Te Anau/Domain and Motor Camp/Papatotara/Clifden) for 1.3km
  • Turn left onto Papatotara Rd for 5.9km
  • Turn right onto Papatotara Coast Rd for 6.5km (you will pass the entrance to The Cliffs Seaside Lodge – do not turn in here)
  • Turn left onto The Cliffs and your destination will be on the left approx. 600m.
From Invercargill Airport
  • 1 hour 17 min (109km) via the Scenic Route (Hwy 99)
  • Head southeast on Airport Ave, turn left onto Stead St, slight left toward Bond St (signs for Bond St)
  • Turn left onto Bond St.  At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Victoria Ave
  • Slight left onto State Hwy 99 for 78km (you will pass through Riverton, and also drive past Monkey Island, through Orepuki, past Gemstone Beach and McCracken’s Rest) – drive through Tuatapere
  • Turn left onto Southern Scenic Rte/State Hwy 99 (signs for Manapouri/Te Anau/Domain and Motor Camp/Papatotara/Clifden
  • Turn left onto Papatotara Rd for 5.9km
  • Turn right onto Papatotara Coast Rd for 6.5km (you will pass the entrance to The Cliffs Seaside Lodge – do not turn in here)
  • Turn left onto The Cliffs and your destination will be on the left approx. 600m.
From Te Anau 
  • 1 hour 17 mins (112km)

  • Head south on State Hwy 94 toward State Hwy 94 for 15.1km

  • Turn right onto Hillside-Manapouri Rd (signs for Manapouri) for 10.9km

  • Turn left onto Weir Rd (signs for Blackmount/Southern Scenic Rte/Tuatapere) for 8.3km

  • Turn right onto Blackmount-Redcliff Rd/Southern Scenic Rte (signs for Blackmount/Tuatapere) for 51.8km

  • Turn right onto Southern Scenic Rte/State Hwy 99 (signs for Tuatapere/Invercargill) for 13km

  • Continue straight onto Papatotara Rd for 5.9km
  • Turn right onto Papatotara Coast Rd for 6.5km (you will pass the entrance to The Cliffs Seaside Lodge – do not turn in here)
  • Turn left onto The Cliffs and your destination will be on the left approx. 600m.
From Queenstown Airport
  • 2 hours 29 mins (210km)

  • Continue on State Hwy 6 to Mossburn (106km)

  • Follow Wreys Bush-Mossburn Rd to State Hwy 96 in Wreys Bush (40.2km)

  • Continue onto State Hwy 96 (signs for Winton) (3.6km)

  • Take Otautau-Tuatapere Rd to State Hwy 99 in Tuatapere (44.9km)

  • Turn right onto State Hwy 99 (signs for Manapouri/Te Anau/Domain and Motor Camp/Papatotara/Clifden)
  • Turn left onto Papatotara Rd for 5.9km
