Looking for accomodation in Tuatapere? Our bed and breakfast is a short 12km drive from Tuatapere and is perfect for your stay in Western Southland whether you’re walking the Hump Track or just tiki-touring around the bottom of New Zealand.
ToiToi Papatotara is a private room with its own entrance, lounge & bathroom in the end wing of our home. It has an amazing ocean view, which you can enjoy from the hot tub (outdoor spa), or whilst you lay in bed. There is a second bedroom available if you are a group of 3 or 4 travelling together.
The hot tub (spa) is exclusively yours for the duration of your stay. Experience sunrise and/or sunset while enjoying the benefits of a hot soak! The view to the left is Stewart Island and to the right is the stunning Fiordland National Park within which sits the Hump Ridge Track.
The gateways to Doubtful Sound (Lake Manapouri) and/or Milford Sound (Te Anau) are only an hours drive from ToiToi Papatotara and New Zealand’s deepest lake, Lake Hauroko is close too.
Cooking facilities on site are limited to a gas bbq (pizza stone available), microwave, small fridge, jug, toaster and toasted sandwich maker – all available for you during your stay.
Local eating out options include a decent cafe/restaurant/bar (Tui Base Camp), the Waiau Town & Country Club (Bistro is open Thurs – Sun), a lovely fish & chip/burger takeaways (Hungry Hippo) or the local Four Square also boasts a range of hot/cold foodstuffs – all approx. 12 kms drive back to Tuatapere. Heading out towards Invercargill within a 20-30 minute drive, there’s the Orepuki Tavern, Orepuki Beach Cafe (delicious gluten-free options available – check open hours!) & the Colac Bay Tavern (great pub food), and another 5 minutes up the road is Riverton, also having several pubs/takeaway options. In the opposite direction you could head to Brunel Peaks Cafe & Bar at Monowai – be sure to check their opening hours though!
We live on-site but like to leave our guests alone and let them bask in the quietness of our special corner of the world. (We are available for tips on what to see & what to do and we’ve walked the Hump Ridge Track ourselves if that’s what you’re down this way to do.

The best spot close to the ocean with a wonderful view, new furniture, very clean, great bathroom, the best host! Everything you need for breakfast! Best thing is the hot tub with view to the ocean which you totally have for yourself! It’s definitely worth the drive!
Breakfast was very wonderful and hosts were happy to accommodate my dietary requirements. Despite being joined to the hosts house, the accommodation was private and sound proof. I had a great nights sleep. Oh and sunrise and sunsets were exceptional!
